Of the choices provided, I voted for 5 dudes (In-N-Out fries is always stale to me :/) but I'll take a local burger place anyday over all of the above easily.

Where did you have a stale In&Out? They make their bread fresh every morning, cut their potatoes every day use burger patties made each morning and the tomatoes, onions and lettuce are prepared the day of serving, so how can they taste stale? I have heard some people say, they are not crazy over the fries, and the buns are too small, but stale? That certainly is a new one.
Yes, 5 guys is good but the difference in price is about 3 times. That makes a difference

Perhaps "stale" is not the right word. INO's fries, although freshly made, always taste dry and rather flavorless to me - it might have something to do with that the fries are only fried once. Now that I think about it, INO may just has the worst tasting fries IMO.
I do love 5 Guys' fries and usually I get full just eating the fries alone (I think the portion is pretty generous) so it really doesn't cost 3x as much.

ok, that explains it, if you are just talking about the fries. I have heard people say, before, they are not crazy over the fries and as loyal as I am to I&O, I don't think they have the best either. I do think no one serves a burger mush fresher than I&O though. That is why you have to wait a few minutes when you order. They are making them right in front of you.
Your comment about stale reminds me of a few years ago, when our granddaughter was here, we were having a drink and some good appetizers: celery stuffed with blue cheese and pineapple. She told us she really didn't like celery. I asked her why, and she said, when it is cooking the smell is really strong. Of course later, she realized celery does not have a strong anything. Her point, like yours, was, she didn't quite know how to explain what she didn't like about it. We still tease her, not cause she doesn't care for celery, but her reasoning. I am sure we have all described something in a way, that doesn't really hit the nail on the head.
It can often be my favorite if they offer jalapenos on the burger and are on my route.
