I made minestrone soup last night, a really good soup that we enjoyed very much, one that made plenty of leftovers. I was looking forward to having some for lunch today. But I realized this morning that I forgot to put the soup in the fridge. It sat uncovered on a cold stove in a cold house all night. What to do?
Assuming you used vegetables, pasta and a tomato based broth (without a bunch of meat thrown in), I think it's probably safe to it. I would probably eat it today, though.
i wouldnt worry. why would the tomato worry you???
there is no meat, tomatos can be eaten cooked or raw. they were already cooked and shouldn't cause you any problems.
i say boil and eat it!
I don't know ... I always thought tomato-based stuff went bad so quickly. I did simmer the soup gently for half an hour or so this morning, let it cool a bit, and then put it in the fridge. I'll have some for lunch. If I never return, you'll know what happened to me! Ha!
I personally would have no problem at all re-heating and eating it, especially if it's veggie.
If the soup was cooled fairly rapidly and stayed cool/cold, it is fine to reheat and eat, so long as you bring it to boiling point for at least 2 minutes (obviously, food kept lukewarm for long periods is much more likely to breed bacteria).
I didn't know tomatoes were dangerous - I thought they were pretty stable!
I've left a pot of chili on the stove from time to time, intending to put it in the fridge before I went to bed and it had cooled down. Then found it still there the next morning The house is cool at night during chili season and I suffered no ill effects from eating it. (My chili is vegetarian with soy/TVP in place of meat).
Obviously not something I'd make a habit of but I don't think it's going to hurt anyone....I've done that without any problem....
