Hunter Wold, I'm jealous of your experience in the fishing industry. (Not jealous of the labor, but of the seafood. Well, not of the seafood itself--they weren't lucky at all, I guess--but that you got to sample all that freshness over 30 years!)
Same for me-shrimp and scallops also add the best lobster. Fish ,I miss is tuna and boy do I miss steamers!
This is coming from a LI'er (NY) out to the Midwest. Best we have here is Red Lobster. As a treat-a Christmas present to us, we ordered lobster tails from Maine.
Abalone up off Mendocino is often seized by the authorities from people illegally harvesting them. In one town the contraband is given to a senior center for consumption, and the kitchen sells lunch to the public for the center's profit.
Lucky seniors! I had thought the coast of California too expensive for retirement--maybe I should reconsider.
