When my sisters and I were teens, the family spent a number of summer vacations at the beach. My parents sat down to a celebratory high ball or two while watching the sunset every evening. We kids joined in with a soft drink and maybe a few chips or crackers. We discovered we liked dipping Cheetos (had to be the puffy ones) in 7 UP. If you bit into a dripping Cheeto quickly enough after dipping it, they actually fizzed on your mouth. Though our parents thought we were nuts, it became a nightly ritual. Right up until an intestinal virus hit the house one year. One by one, everyone woke up in the middle of the night so violently ill a couple didn't make it to the bathroom in time. We blamed it on the Cheetos. Can't say I've ever cared for them again.

There's a bagel place in my hometown that does horseradish cream cheese with black olives, and my dad always orders it. To each his own, I guess.
