Saw at the other thread that he's not someone personally special to you. Honestly, I'd only send home baked to someone you care for personally. For one thing - it makes his actual loved ones look bad since he wouldn't be asking you for home baked if his family or close friends were keeping him supplied. I've counseled several families/soldiers over that kind of thing Also, it's just such a hassle on both sides and there are other ways you can support him.

If you still want to send home made - don't worry too much about the nestle guidelines. I never had any trouble with ingredients or mold. Half crisco/half butter is a good idea, though, as the snickerdoodle person mentioned. Oh and rice krispie treats - with chocolate chips in them - that would be an excellent compromise = easy peasy and tasty!

Sure. I'll try to remember to DM the recipe to you tonight. I'll make a note. If I forget, feel free to DM me with a reminder!

Good idea to test in the car!

My friends to whom I've sent cookies in Iraq and Afghanistan have said that my snickerdoodles were always fresh and not crumbled when they arrived, regardless of the time of year. Snickerdoodles are also good made with all shortening and no butter at all. (Not good for the arteries, but good for the tastebuds!) I would add that those same friends told me that some cookies, and all brownies, sent to them by other people were moldy upon arrival.

Lemon bars. It's hot and lemon is refreshing. Lemon bars heavily dusted in powdered sugar.

I have no experience with it, but I would think scones or anisette cookies due to the dryness of them. Never know how long they will sit before they arrive.

Me too. I thought lemon bars always needed refrigeration.

Excellent idea Deef1 I LOVE LEMON BARS....and they would be a very refreshing, quick, baked good to send to Iraq. I have never heard of them needing to be refrigerated and don't chill mine.
