The check engine light is on and it flashes about every mile. The code at the auto store is P0302.
A mechanic has replaced the 4 spark plugs, the coil and the injector with no change. The mechanic has done an air test to see if there is a leak, with no air leak found. The compression is right. The mechanic has changed the spark plugs and the coils to different spots and it still gives the p0302 code after he has erased the old code. We are at our wits end.
What is the problem? Does anyone have any other ideas? The mechanic says the only thing left is the computer but that is expensive, according to him. He is a Ford Mechanic where the Ford dealership stopped selling cars and they laid everyone off. He went out on his own. Can a Ford dealer run diagnostics and tell me what is happening?

I had a misfire code on a 1996 Explorer, and it turned out to be a hairline crack in the head. While it set the code, it ran fine otherwise and was not bad enough to lose power or leak water into the oil. It was only discovered after the head was pulled, and that's a couple of hundred whether you decide to fix it or not. In my case the cost to replace the head was $2,600.
