My dad wanted me to see what I could find out about this. He has an '05 Ford F150 V8 2wd with 234,000 miles. When you turn the wheel even slightly to the left at highway speeds (as if on a curve), you can feel a vibration (like a buzzing) through the steering wheel and accelerator pedal and even hear the sound and the more to you turn, the louder and more pronounced it is. I thought maybe the muffler hanger was loose and leaning over on something in the turn causing it, or maybe something like a wheel bearing or something, but he seems to think it is something with the steering or rack and pinion or something.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what this may be?

Thanks!

That is a typical symptom of a bad wheel bearing, if you hear it turning to the left then the right front bearing would be the culprit.

Same thing on my '03 a couple years ago. Do you also have a bit of a shimmy? If so, one of the ball joints is also bad.

If it is a bearing , replace both now.

Thanks for the replies! Yep, I was thinking bad wheel bearing as well, but wanted more opinions. North Beach - nope, no shimmy, just the buzzing/whirring when turning the wheel to the left at higher speeds.

Thanks again!

That body style was known for steering shaft issues. Someone to look into as well.
