im driving a 2014 ford focus SE as a rental and im a bit impressed with the quality of this car. still feels a bit cheap, but its a sturdy cheap feel that makes me feel ok with it oddly.
I guess that's why ford isn't in trouble like GM. they've actually focued on improving.
The new Focus is a "Global Focus" so that would explain why its so much better then in years past. The car is basically the same as the car in the rest of the world.
Me too. I haven't been a fan of american cars in decades, Even when I was working in auto servicing industry. I didn't bother to test drive it.
My buddy got a 2013 mustang gt 5.0... Since its my close friends car. I drove it for a day. He wanted me to feel it like I would drive my own.
To my surprise, I was totally impressed with layout, function, and feel of interior buttons, switches, and driveability.
Shifting was nice smooth, short throw. Short clutch, manageble pressure, no more clumsy shifting, no more rattle..
It felt like driving a new bmw. Everything from small buttons, to window switches to lights, Down to the suspension. I m very impressed, ford is doing something right.
I heart the EB in my SHO. Hell, I heart the entire car. Cannot wait to tune it for over 420HP and 425lb-ft torque! This thing is heavily detuned from the factory.
Does fine in MPG compared to the competition, considering it has 365HP stock. Guys claim 2MPG better when tuning, so that will be interesting to test out.
the only thing I find annoying is the sync system. I hate I have to tell the Bluetooth to turn on my Bluetooth audio so I can stream Pandora each time I turn on the car. this isn't the case in my foreign made car.
I'm not a big fan of replacing V8s with Ecoboost 6s, the fuel economy is very similar and the new engines are more complex.
I have an Ecoboost in my F-150, damned thing moves. 365hp and 420 pounds of torque, and that torque is at only 2500 rpm. People who tow travel trailers are very pleased with the Ecoboost; the consensus on F-150 and RV forums is it's far superior to the 5L V8 and at least equal to the 6.2 V8.
They get good mileage IF you can keep your foot out of it, which is hard. I get between 17-18mpg driving around St. Augustine, not bad for a 4x4 crew cab.

What remains to be seen is how durable the Ecoboost will be over time. So far, the consensus from people who I know that drive Ecoboosts in pickups is very mixed. Some have put over 100K miles on them with no problems, but some have had serious problems at low engine mileages. These reports at both ends of the spectrum are from people who maintain their engines properly and use them within their design limits.
I've had a fair amount of experience around turbocharged gasoline engines and they have to be built extremely well to last to high mileage--and quite a few aren't. Turbocharged diesel engines are much less prone to problems due to the turbocharger, but there are exceptions even there. The horrible 6.0 and 6.4 Powerstroke diesels found in 2003-2010 Ford heavy duty pickups were a great example--and a huge black mark on Ford's reputation.
