I know. The '77s were smaller but not that much smaller. They lost about 9-12 inches in length and a huge 800-900 or so pounds in weight.

They do look alot smaller than 9-12 inches compared to the 1976 and earlier models, I wonder how good the power/weight ratio was on the 1977 Cadillacs?

One thing what I wish they haven't done for the Lincoln's was drop the 351 V8 after the 1980 model year but I know they've had to due to the skyrocketing gas prices that took place during that time period.

Thanks for posting those #s. Sure were lighter. I would like to also look up to see how much the 1980 Lincolns went down from the 1979 models.... I did and...
(from the brochures)

1980 Continental 4dr - 4061
1980 Continental 2dr - 3985 (wow, below 4000!)

1979 Continental 4dr - 4843
1979 Continental 2dr - 4846 (strange, this year the 2dr was heavier by 3 pounds... at least according to the brochure!)

Wow, those are good examples of more big loses in weight.

My '66 Plymouth Fury VIP (383 engine), at 4,330 lbs, weighs more than those 1980 Continentals!

I agree. They were still pretty big cars and needed a 351 (or bigger) engine. I guess they did okay, though, with the 302.

Yep, my 69 Caprice 4dr weighed 4,410 I think. My 73 Grand Ville is around 4600.

You know that the first year of that redesign, the 80 Continental weighed 4061... the last year of that design, which was 1989, weighed 4044, weight didnt change much at all in the 1980s.

Strange though that when the Town Car was redesigned for 1990, it was about the exact same weight as the 1989 Town Car... the 1990 Town Car weighed in at 4035.

Was the 1990-up Town Car's longer than the 1980s Lincoln Town Cars? I'm surprised the weight didn't change all that much on all of the 1980s Town Cars, also wasn't the 1980s Mark VII's more luxurious than the Town Car's?

Well, the 1989 Town Car was only slightly longer... the 1989 was 219 inches long and the 1990 was 218.8 inches long. Wheelbase of the 1990 was longer though, but almost identical... the 1989 had a 117.3 wheelbase and the 1990 had a 117.4 wheelbase.

Yeah, the Mark was also available as a sedan starting in 1980... it was called the Mark VI and was more luxurious. It looked like the front-rear end of the Mark coupe, but like the Continentals cabin area. I think 1983 was the last year for the Mark sedan, because the coupe was redesigned for 1984, being called the Mark VII and the sedan Mark was dropped. Back in 1993, I almost bought a Mark VI sedan... it was a 1981 model. It was at a local Honda dealership for $1500... I passed and bought my 1978 Continental instead for $700.

The 81 Mark VI sedan I almost bought looked like this...

Well, last time I went by there it was dark and there was a guy looking at it... it was gone the next day... I guess he bought it! Hopefully not just for the drivetrain!
