I looked at a Taurus and thought it was nice but cross shopped the Toyota Avalon and liked it better. (I completed a repair on my old car and did not buy a new one).

Why didn't they rename it?

When I hear Taurus, I think crummy rental car that I can't wait to return...

I think that's what the "Five Hundred's" were for. I do agree that "Taurus" still leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouth but the Five Hundred never sold as good. Remarkably, people want a "Taurus". So now we have a semi-luxury Five Hundred badged as a Taurus, which it certainly is not. That said, the car is nice.

When the Civics/Corollas/etc were first introduced, they were chintzy rat traps with leaf blower-sized engines and garbage interiors.... times change, no need for the names to!

The new Taurus is amazing. Ive sat in a few and poured over them with a fine-toothed comb. The fit and finish and the details on them make a Camry feel look like a piece o' crap.

That's no comparison...before the Civic, Honda had only made motorcycles! It was obvious that the Civic improved by leaps and bounds over the years. The same with Toyotas, although they had made cars for years before they showed up here.

I'm just saying that the name "Taurus" leaves a bad taste in some peoples' mouths (my mother had two that both blew up before 100K). It just seems to me, that if the new Taurus is as great as you say...they would want a great new name, one without "baggage". Most people are not car enthusiasts like us...they'll hear Taurus and think...JUNK.

You'll note that no ship named "Titanic II" was ever built!

Considering the Ford Taurus is the 3rd best selling car; how is it bad exactly? maybe a few flaws, yes but it can be fixed. besides, nothing and no one is perfect. The corolla had harly ANY room. now americans want room not clown cars.

Last edited by iColt1; 01-22-2010 at 12:35 PM.. Reason: mistook Camry for the Corolla lol
