Before you answer, think about this for a moment. Originally, the Mustang was built on the Ford Falcon platform. Today's Mustang could do the same thing in reverse. Make a compact rear wheel drive sedan based upon the Mustang platform but with rear independent suspension and make it a Lincoln luxuary sports sedan.

Ford's already got small cars like the Fiesta and the Focus which slot below the Fusion and the Taurus. I think they've got their bases covered from Mini to Full-Size sedans.

I was thinking of it as a Lincoln rear wheel drive sedan not included as a Ford to use to start Lincoln on the road to a RWD division the way Infinity and Lexus has been doing. If done and priced right, it could easily compete with the BMW 3 series or the Infinity G or Lexus IS cars.

sailordave, i think if ford were to do a falcon sized sedan and put it in the lincoln line, the name zephyr would be a better choice. the fusion already replaces what the falcon would be in this country, and there is an all wheel drive version of the fusion sport available.

The Falcon has never went away. The original Falcon was brought over to Australia in the 60's, developed for Australian conditions and over the years starting 1973 began to develop on it's own with several redesigns and new chassis over the years.

Some of the original Falcons developed for Bathurst and other limited cars such as the 351 GT have sold for hundreds of thousands and some of the race cars for over a million.

Ford has looked twice at bringing over the Falcon in the past decade and turned it down both times for reasons unknown.

Read and weep:

Yes it is still rear wheel drive and you can get a V8 or turbo six.

On my next trip to Australia I have already decided to buy a Ford Falcon BA from around 2003-2004 and then sell it at the end of the trip.

Bring over the Aussie falcon, badge it as a Lincoln, and breathe some life into the brand! It could easily take on the CTS and other RWD sport luxury vehicles if they gussie it up the right way.

I sure wouldn't want a rear wheel drive car! I think ford should change the name of the Focus to Falcon. Fords were still good cars when the Falcon was produced. It might help the public's perception.

More likely, it would damage their perception among the public that long ago grew tired of the Big Three slapping model names rooted in tradition on the back of cars wholly unworthy of them.
