There is a house in my neighborhood that appears to have been abandoned a long time ago. Occasionally the lawn gets mowed but very rarely and other then that there is no sign of anyone or anything changing at the property. According to Zillow, The bank foreclosed on the home in 2005. The market was booming in this area in 2005 and 2006 so they could have sold it then or now as it's booming here again. I'm wondering if it is normal for banks to hold onto foreclosures for such a long period of time?
There are many in "shadow inventory". banks don't want it on their books. You can go to your local County registrar of Deeds.(free public info., IF you live in the area, you won't get factual info online).
get the Plat area, or address. The clerk should have updated information for you. Hope this helps. Do it in person though.
Thanks. I looked it up in the county database and it appears to be owned by a very rich and successful man who lives thousands of miles away. It's so weird. It's just sitting vacant and has sat vacant for years. It's a decent lot but the house is tiny and a dump. I can see how it would be a good investment property because someone could scrape it and build a duplex or triplex and make some serious cash. That is actually what is happening all over the rest of the block right now which makes me think it's weird that someone is just sitting on it. It's obvious that other then the weeds, err, I mean, lawn getting mowed once a month in the summer, no one ever goes there. Oh well, I guess it's none of my business but I have been curious as to why it's been vacant for so long. Thanks for the responses.
There is a weird house like that a few blocks from our house. It is a decent sized two story house with an attached garage. Very dated looking, though. The grass gets cut, but otherwise the property looks like a dump. It's been this way for at least 10 years, with no one living in it. If there was ever a driveway, it has since been completely overgrown with grass/weeds. It's actually in a fairly decent location, so I don't know why someone doesn't do something with it.
Some times owners are on death beds, commas, divorce courts or in probate or in litigation and nobody can move until all is settled.
