Just get an agent in the area(s) you're interested in and they can email foreclosure listings. Contrary to general public's knowledge, they are listed by local Realtors and placed on MLS as the banks know this is the best way to sell them. Find someone who's familiar with selling REO's. I'm in the midlands of SC and there are a few agents from NC on here as well.
Are you looking to buy a foreclosure at auction on the courhouse steps ? IF so then you should search local classifieds for the auction notices. If you want to buy a foreclosed home that is owned by a lender then Brandon's suggestion is the best way
I have to say while the concept of buying at the foreclosure auction seems great, you are often buying without any idea what the interior is like. Once listed, you can make your offer after inspecting the property. There are many advantages for most buyers to wait until the home is listed on the MLS.
I have to second Brandon Huffman's answer. Find a buyers agent in the specific area you are looking at, preferably one with experience in representing buyers of foreclosed homes.
Avoid any website that charges you for information about foreclosures. Often they have incorrect or dated information.
I am in Upstate SC if you have any questions about my area. Good luck and best wishes!
I also agree with Brandon -- find an agent in the area where you would like to focus your search. They can send you listings that meet your criteria, and can even preview them on your behalf.
Thanks everyone. Turns out it;s my grandmother who is looking, but I don't know which areas. I've told her to find a good agent and stay away from anything that seems too good to be true.
