That would depend on the state where the OP resides and their closing procedures. Many states do not use attorneys for closing, and are handled by title company escrow officers. Of course, anyone can hire an attorney to review documents if they want to go to that extra expense.

Well, the deadline has come and gone and we're now told that the negotiator for the loan is off tomorrow and we can wait until Monday to decide. The agent for the seller told the bank they will never get the price they are asking for this house and they should take our offer. We are in central CA and in one of the worst housing markets in the country. The house needs some cosmetic work (the master bath is functional but needs a lot of work) and it just isn't worth what the bank now wants. They are in L.A. with higher prices and they look at this from a distance as a steal, but that's just not what it is. We'll be standing firm. They can take it or leave it.
