Hi all - I am planning a second half of life move to either EP or Loveland before the end of 2011. Extremely excited and want to ask what your thought is about these two towns and the 'community' feeling there.

Primary difference, IMO, is that EP is much more of a tourist town, Loveland much more a standard town/suburb.

Loveland is a wonderful community. We lived in Loveland and spent many weekend days roaming Estes Park as our "getaway" to enjoy nature and browse the downtown shops. To answer your questions:

EP can be better to 'visit' than to live, especially for retirees.
One of my friends in Loveland recently mentioned. "We enjoy Estes Park much more, now that we live in Loveland" (and can visit EP, instead of live there (as they did for over 10 yrs)).
The wind, weather, remoteness, crowds, and expense of living in this tourist town can get a bit old after while. (that said I know many EP residents who have endured for many yrs, but most have extended family there)... If choosing Loveland, look to west side of downtown (between RR and Taft) It is much more 'homey' than the suburbs. Area around 'westlake center' (Taft and 34) is a decent walkable region as well. Another nice enclave near Mtn View Presby Church (~ 24th and Garfield).
Living in proximity to the lake is nice for walking 'around'. I have a 90+ yr old friend that has nearly 1,000 laps done. I enjoy joining, and we meet new folks, & see new views each time

I see they are redoing the Pool at LHS (on Lake) That will be swell, Loveland gets the award (in my book) for nice AFFORDABLE lap swimming options.

Estes Park is a tourist town. Loveland is a nice community that is located about 40 minutes from Estes so an easy day trip up there whenever you want. Estes is expensive as it caters to the tourists and Loveland has a great arts scene and an up and coming restaurant scene.

bella: I'll be coming from texas. I cringe to say that; and have been waiting 30 years to get out...from the day i got here actually. There is a bumper sticker here that says I'm not from texas but got here as fast as i could...well my sentiment is the opposite and couldn't wait to get out.
