I wonder if what I read is true or just hype about a couple of pubs. I heard there is a beer culture in Fort Collins, several micro-breweries. We're heading there in May for a visit and would like some idea about where to grab a pint and some decent food. We're a bit older and not really interested in hanging out with a loud college crowd. Any suggestions?

I kind of thought this was supposed to be a joke thread. Guess not.
Although, if you live east of the Mississippi I guess I could understand not having heard of New Belgium.

You could easily spend a FULL day on the breweries in the Fort.

one hidden gem to take a look at is a wine co-op type place called Vintages (it's in Old town). They buy grapes from vineyards all over the world, and then will make the wine for you. They have great tasting sessions, and can do all kinds of great blending to get you the best personal wine for you. Give them a call and set up a tasting while you are in town. it will be totally worth it.

Colorado is one of the hubs of the micro-brewery industry.

I second the Coopersmith's recommendation. That was always a favorite place of ours when we lived in Fort Collins. Personally, I'm not a big fan of Fat Tire, but my beer tastes have changed quite a bit since college. I used to love it! I would also highly recommend Odell's Brewing Co. They have a tap room, so you can take a brewery tour and then sample all the great beers afterward. Fort Collins definitely has a great microbrew culture!

You lucky devil. You're visiting one of the best towns for microbrews in the country. Our favorite is Odell's. They recently enlarged their brewery, and they have some excellent beers. But Fort Collins is to beer what Seattle (or Portland) is to coffee. There's practically a brewery on every corner. We moved away two years ago, and in just that amount of time several new breweries have opened. You are in for a treat. We live in New Hampshire now, and we miss Fort Collins' beer SO MUCH.

If you want a really unique beer, try the green chile beer at Coopersmiths. :-)

Don't forget Funkwerks! I love Odell's, too!

While this is true, the PNW is also known for their microbrew culture too! Big hoppy beers are definitely what we (in the PNW) do best.
