Can anyone steer us toward older neighborhoods on the west side that have easy access to open space? Thank you!

Not sure how you define older, but here are a few places to start looking:

Easiest access to open space is from The Ponds. Trail starts in the neighborhood and goes into the Maxwell open space. (3-12 years old)

Quail Hollow and Quail Ridge are adjacent to Pineridge open space. (12-25 years old)

Silver Oaks is next to the Spring Canyon Community Park and just across the park from the Pineridge open space. (12-18)

Taft Canyon (12-26 years old) and Fox Hills (11-17 years old) are on the Cathy Fromme Prairie open space. This open space does not have dirt hiking trails, but has a concrete multi-use trail. This will be connected to the Spring Canyon Community Park and Pineridge open space in the upcoming weeks, after the completion of the bike path connector under County Road 38E.

Brown Farm, Trail West, Fairbrooke, Hampshire Pond, Hampshire Square, Springfield, Overland Hills, Imperial Estates, Wildwood, Overland Trail Farm and Siena are also within a mile of trail heads at Pineridge or Maxwell.

To the north-west, Poudre Overlook, Dean Acres, Stagecoach, and Lin-Mar acres are not far from the Reservoir Ridge trail head at Michaud Lane. (a little over a mile)

A bit more info on a couple of these neighborhoods is located at Northern Colorado Neighborhoods.

Price range, age of property, neighborhood amenities, type of home, and whether you want to walk from your front door or drive easily will assist you or your Realtor in finding the right property.

Feel free to post specific questions about these neighborhoods here.

Good Luck!
Mike Weber

Default Thank you!

Mike, your long and thoughtful reply was greatly appreciated. You asked for more detail.

. We would like to be west of College Ave. (but are open to any suitable neighborhood.)
. Our budget is up to $300,000.
. We prefer houses built in the 1950's to1970's - especially ranch style homes.
. Will also look at more modern architecture. the only style we really won't consider is the one that is popular in all the newer subdivisions.
. Ideally at least 1/2 acre lot.
. We won't even look at a home without large, mature trees.

Are we dreaming? One neighborhood that appealed to us when we drove through it was Dean Acres(?). Can you suggest any similar areas i.e. Larger lots, older architecture, mature landscaping, small neighborhood? Hiking within a fifteen minute drive would be wonderful. Also, we are not opposed to being in an outlying area - but not too far out.

Mike, any additional suggestions you may offer will be greatly appreciated.
