Someone I know said they heard that Colorado doesn't have many snow cone stands or anything like that, and that Fort Collins may not even have ONE! Tell me this isn't so! You guys have snow cones and/or shaved ice (if there really is a difference), don't you?

The only place I've seen snow cone stands are at amusement parks, water parks, carnivals, places like that.
If you've ever had real shave ice in Hawaii you know there is a difference. Snow cones are made with crushed ice, shave ice is a very fine ice that is like powder snow.

There is a shaved ice truck that drives around town like an ice cream truck, and sells to kids in the neighborhoods.

Excellent. I'll take it!

It's still odd to me, however, and I wonder if someone could make a killin if they opened a shop specifically for snow cones or shaved ice. I'd rather have that than ice cream anyday. Surely I'm not alone?

make your own. We got a very robust and authentic Shaved Ice Machine several yrs ago and it has served thousands of helpings (wish I had one at the moment). It was ~ $50, and took several tries to find one that was adequate.

Here is the link to the Kona shaved ice truck page on Facebook. Maybe they will stop in your neighborhood.

Default At least FoCo has decent frozen custard...

...at Good Times and Culvers! I prefer Good Times since it's (MUCH) less busy than Culvers and is closer to where we live.

...and Gelato at Gelazzi.

Just moved to the Ft. Collins area so the others can tell you better than me. What I DO KNOW is that there is a definite difference......aside from the texture, true Hawaiian shave(d) ice will have a little dollop of ice cream in the very bottom of the paper 'cone'.
