Well, Fort Collins is more like California than any other part of Colorado...I'm not surprised you love it there!

That may be true if I had moved from a stereotypical part of California. But I moved from a tiny (18,000 people) farming town right in the heart of the Central Valley. The population was predominantly Hispanic (and farm workers), gangs were completely taking over the town, and I had to drive 45 minutes to the nearest mall. So no, Fort Collins is nothing like the California I moved from. It is actually the polar opposite, and probably why I like it so much.

It seems like many people from this area believe that California is all LA or the Bay Area. But there's Fresno/Bakersfield/Central Valley that are an entity all unto themselves, and very unlike what people think of as California. I only loved it there because I grew up there on a family farm, but as far as redeeming qualities for the average person, there's not many unfortunately.

Greeley is two different places depending on what side of town you are on. The west end is the nicest. For your interests it looks like FC would be your best bet, although more expensive.
Wndsor is great if you want the smaller town feel.
