I was looking into real estate in Loveland and Ft. Collins While cruising into the maps, I took note of Landfills. Should I worry about it? How far should I stay away from it when buying a house?
Thanks.

don't live SOUTH of the landfill (wayward side of wind). Very few houses available there anyway. Anywhere close to the main dump (SW of FC) is not too great (IMHO) very dry prairie. So many nicer places to choose. Traffic would keep me away from any operating dumps. Ground water contamination would be a reason to stay clear of abandoned / reclaimed dumps.

Thanks. I was wondering why there are not a lot of houses in the SW part and then saw the Landfill drawned. I thought this area should have been more developed since it is close to the Horsetooth Canyon.

Where is the Land fill in Loveland?

Fort Collins and Loveland are both served by the Larimer County landfill on Taft Hill Road between Fort Collins and Loveland.

Waste Management also operates a landfill on Highway 14 east of Fort Collins and west of Ault.

The Loveland landfill WAS (circa 1960's) at the current site of the ballpark (West 1st & Taft). Since it is along the Big T river, I expect there is an ongoing mitigation process, but from all visible perspectives it has been reclaimed.

My understanding is that there are two historic landfill sites in Fort Collins. One on or near the site of the Northside Aztlan Recreation center and one where the Taft Canyon subdivision now sits near Harmony and Taft Hill. There are monitoring wells between the Poudre River and the north side site. I have not heard of any issues in Taft Canyon, aside from some unstable soil conditions.

I always heard about a land fill for CSU right next to the stadium, right where dixon canyon bends at the dam. Heard stories about all kinds of research waste buried up that way and all along the dams around the res.
