I am a hard working mother of three children and my husband and I moved here for a job opportunity that didn't go through. We are both now searching for new jobs and housing, with only so much left in the bank, we are worried about what options we might or might not have.
We are open to any job opportunities, as my husband can work construction/plumbing and fix almost anything ran by electricity. He can tinker with almost anything to fix something, I don't even know how he does it so well. Myself, I have previous customer service experience in many different positions. I have my bachelors degree in Business Administration and am looking to work any position in Permaculture/Horticulture/Agriculture that I can. I am an avid gardener, and though Colorado may not have the greatest climate, greenhouses work amazing wonders! I have also worked many EVS, customer service, hospice care, and even worked in nursing homes. I have cleaned hotels/motels, resorts, even worked with resorts in catering. I have a lot of experience and so does my husband. We really just need help in the right direction, as we left everything behind.
Please no hate, we are really just trying to figure out what are our best options.

I can certainly relate to job opportunities falling through, difficulties finding new work, and keeping money in the bank. My family lost a lot of money during our stay in FC. We ended up moving back to where we were from, and where things click and work well. I immediately found a job, and one that pays far more than anything similar around FC.

My only advice would be to be where you connect with jobs and the jobs market. It might mean relocating. There are so many people moving to Northern Colorado, which means so much competition, and including many young persons who will work for next to nothing. Experience doesn't matter as much as youth and regional familiarity in appearance (i.e. looking like the default resident). It really works against older and more skilled and seasoned employees. I've never seen an area where the young (20s-30s) have so much control over the work environment. We never would have moved to FC if we had been aware of that.

Good luck and best wishes to you.

I'd start with the state source for jobs that many local employers prefer over national job boards;https://www.connectingcolorado.com/

After that Indeed seems to have a good assortment of local and regional openings, but many of these places use it as a pre-screening filter so odds will be longer for securing interviews, but still possible. https://www.indeed.com/q-Jobs-l-Fort...,-CO-jobs.html

The Ft Collins Chamber also lists the largest employers in the area if you want to search their sites out for specific openings; https://fortcollinschamber.com/jobs/major-employers/

Why not start a handy man business? Or a home repair business?

^ Yeah, and compete with the hundreds already out there. That's another area that's totally saturated.

^ Sure, if you don't have an entrepreneurial attitude, nothing will work. Did Starbucks say, "Oh man, there's already tons of coffee shops?" It's all about how you market yourself.

If he's a great gadget fixer, he could do well. But he has to go through the motions of growing a business, which he may want to do. A handyman business requires little start-up money.

There's a lot going on in the area. It's just a matter of hooking up with the right people.

The handyman idea might be worth looking into. It seems that most around here are pretty busy and we have a hard time getting someone to work in a reasonable amount of time. My colleagues in my real estate office are often looking for more referrals who can perform handyman work for clients.
