Is Fort Collins a good area to raise a child? How is the cost of living there?
Tired of the cement in Florida! Need to find a great place to move. Suggestions?
Thank you.

Fort Collins is a WONDERFUL place to live!! You will love it, and it's very kid-friendly, it's mostly families there (unless you are in the Old City downtown) which is mostly college kids.

We are moving back from Orlando ourselves, enough FL for us too! The cost of buying a home is about 1/2... maybe even less than of what it costs in Orlando. As an example, property taxes for a $180k house in the city of Fort Collins will cost you around $1,200 - $1,500 per year. Not bad. Home owner's insurance and car insurance are MUCH cheaper there too, we have gotten quotes.

CO is great, just make sure you treat people and the city with respect and you will see how friendly the locals are!!

Good luck!
ML

If you like the mountain states, consider Cheyenne, WY just a few miles north of Fort Collins. Really nice city, safe, friendly, good economy, not as congested as CO.

Fort Collins sounds like your kinda of town if you are looking for a reasonable cost of living and affordable homes. My wife and I can't say enough about this area. Parks everywhere, the mountains, bike paths and wonderful year around activities for families and most of the time, great weather. ( although this winter has produced more snow than usual.) I would highly recommend this wonderful growing city.

Seems like Floridians are just plain tired of what is going on. A massive exodus
from the state. And the influx of illegals! I just cannot take it anymore. Heat, humidity, hurricanes, crime rates escalating, price of taxes and home ins., enough, huh?
Perhaps if Florida had a State income tax, things might be better.

Originally thought about N Georgia, so many people I know are going there, soon it will be another Florida. The Georgia threads, for the most part seem to be hostile coming from locals. They do not want us there. Western NC, sounds like they are the same. Bad air quality too.

My oldest son lived in Crested Butte for a time, loved it there, and wants to go back. (not necessarily in CB) So I am now thinking about Co.too. Sounds like it would be an easy place to make friends too.
