I'm considering relocating to Fort Collins from Colorado Springs. What are the best/safest areas of Ft. Collins? N/S/E/W? Neighborhoods? I'd prefer a newer area with older/a lot of trees. But any info you can give about Ft. Collins would be useful, thank you.

Unfortunately, a newer neighborhood anywhere with lots of mature trees is really hard to find. The older neighborhoods have the trees. These old neighborhoods are around the Old Town district and are highly prized for aesthetic reasons and the proximity to Old Town. However, parts of these neighborhoods are pockmarked with college rentals.

There's a decent neighborhood around the crossroads of Drake and Shields that has some big trees. I think the homes were build around the 80's.

There are few unsafe areas of Fort Collins. Stay out of the trailer parks, rundown looking apt complexes, and other low income housing if you are worried about safety. Drunk college kids are probably the most dangerous thing in town.
