Hi

Can anyone suggest any acreage home areas in the Ft Collins area? Any nearby towns or cities within 30 miles would be ok too. Just looking basically non subdivision areas, unless the subs are acreage meaning atleast 3 acres with each home. Safety a consideration...

Thanks for your advice!

Hi Cassie,
There are many areas within 30 miles of Fort Collins that have acreage homes. These are not easy to describe in specific terms, however, as many of them are in rural farming and / or mountain areas nearby. As the crow flies, 30 miles from the center of Fort Collins covers territory as far away as the Wyoming border, Estes Park, and Longmont / Lyons, as well as quite a bit of farm country east of Fort Collins.

Some specifics of your search would be helpful in pointing you in the correct direction. In what price range are you looking? Why do you want / need acreage (farming, animals, privacy, etc)? How close do you need to be to services in the city? Do you want year-round access, and if so, do you own a 4-wheel drive vehicle? Would you prefer flat, prairie type land, or mountainous, forested land?

There are numerous excellent real estate professionals in this area who can, with some specifics, provide you with property listings that may meet your needs.

For mountain land, some specific areas at which to look would include Glacier View Meadows and surrounding areas near Red Feather Lakes, areas around Masonville, Drake, and in Buckhorn, Rist, Thopmson, and Poudre Canyons.

For prairie / farm type acreages, Wellington, Carr, Nunn, Ault, Pierce, are places that come to mind off the top of my head.

Feel free to post more specifics here and those that post here will see if we can narrow your search. [ mod cut ]

Have a great day,
Mike Weber

Mike thanks for the wealth of info! We mostly want acreage for privacy as well as a pretty good size vegetable garden. We love the cold and as much snow as possible (well within reason). Price range would be up to $300k. My husband would need to commute to work, so we would need year round access. I love the idea of mountains or forest. As long as we could access HS internet we wouldn't mind being out from the city.

Thanks again for your response!

Cassie

Hi Cassie,
There are currently about 18 properties that come pretty close to your criteria listed as available on the market as of this morning, ranging in price from $195k to $300k. Several of them are in the Glacier View Meadows area near Red Feather Lakes. There are a couple in the Buckhorn Canyon / Masonville area south-west of Fort Collins, a few in the foothills west of Loveland, and one near Lyons.

I do not know from where you will be moving, but keep in mind the gardening in Colorado is different than many places, especially if you are moving up in altitude, like some of the above properties.

The amount of snow with which you have to contend is often dependent on which the side of the ridge your property is located, and the quality of your access road.

Have a nice day,
Mike Weber
