Old areas (Omega, Drakes, McClellands, Trilby Corner) (Fort Collins: school, college)

I wasn't sure if anyone was familiar with these names, but they appear on numerous maps and even GPS. I'm guessing they were old towns and/or large farms. Of course, there still are streets that hint at them (Drake, McClelland, Harmony, Trilby). Maybe only a trip to the library or local museum would shed light on this...

I believe some, like Harmony for example, were a wide spot in the road with a general store and or gas station, and maybe a school. (30 years ago a partner and I had a small bike shop in the old Harmony gas station / general store on the NW corner of Harmony and Timberline. This building was moved twice and is now the shooting gallery at the Fort Fun park on Mulberry.)

Some stories I have heard have some of these as rail road sidings / loading areas.

I thought Harmony was named for the school. I don't remember the story now, but it had something to do with everyone getting along, in other words, there was harmony. I'll try to find it and link to it here. It came up in my research on the history of Fort Collins Junior High.

Thanks for the replies, Mike and Meg. That sounds right Mike. An old map that I have shows an area (town?) called Harmony at essentially the intersection of Harmony Rd. and the railroad near Timberline. It's far away from what was the city limits of Fort Collins at that time. It sounds like the buildings you refer to match that location.

McClellands and Drakes show up as being next to another railroad; the one that is parallel to and near (west of) College. There does seem to be a pattern of these locations all being connected with the railroads, so yeah, possibly loading/unloading areas.
