I recently just graduated college with a degree in Communications and I am looking for work in marketing and/or advertising. I am looking for a move to South Florida and I am considering Hollywood because a couple companies have contacted me. I have lived in Maine my whole life, so I am not used to a big city. However I think I could handle Florida. I love the idea of warm weather all year!! Is Hollywood a good place for a young, single, and fun guy like myself to live? What are the good areas to look at and the bad areas in Hollywood to avoid in terms of apartments? I would be moving down alone and looking for a one bedroom or a studio apartment. Thanks everyone!!

There are lots of shady companies in the area who fall under the guise of advertising/relations. If I were you I would get a spot in Ft Lauderdale and commute to Hollywood.

There have been many topics posted about Hollywood. Do a search or just scroll to the next page and you will find plenty of information. I have lived in Hollywood for 7 years and I like it just fine. Many people on this forum seem to have something against the city. Her is 5 pages on Hollywood.

Fort Lauderdale and commuting huh? Interesting thought. Is Hollywood a real big area? How far would my commute from Fort Lauderdale be?

I'm not sure if this job is shady that I have been offered. They want me to fly down for an interview so they can't have that much to hide. Ultra Group Associates (UGA) has contacted me. They have said there is a base salary with commission...so I am not really sure how it could be that bad. I am figuring around $30,000-40,000 a year starting out which is good since I am single and 23 years old.

Well, their website appears legit enough:

Hi Mike,

As long as you have a legit job offer, I would say go for it. You can get by on that income, but I would suggest getting an efficiency or a roomate to stretch your income.

Hollywood has about 150,000 population, has plenty to do, and is ideal for a person out of college.

Many of the marketing firms here are a door to door scam, but if they're flying you in, that's a sign that they're serious, especially in this economy.

Your commute to Ft Lauderdale is just minutes, but traffic on 95 is conjested during rush hour. Any questions, feel free to PM me. I've been in the Hollywood for 23 years.

Thanks a lot to all of you. I really do appreciate it! And I think I'd have to pay for my flight down there. But the job seems legit and the website does also.

Would you recommend me living in Hollywood if I take this job? Or commuting from Ft. Lauderdale? Again I am not sure exactly where this place is located in Hollywood? How long can you actually drive through Hollywood? Is it a huge a area?
