My husband and I are planning to buy a house in one of these 2 developments. We are trying to finalize our decision shortly and would greatly appreciate your feedback/advice on which development would be better suited for a young, professional, married couple planning on having a family. We are particularly interested in a gated community with lots of amenities, a spacious house with a pool, and accessible to great restaurants and not too far from Ft. Lauderdale. Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Hi! I live in Plantation (where HL is located). My DH and I are both native to south FL, and have lived in Broward for 15 years. I was thinking "HL" when I read your post, and when I read it to my DH, he also said HL. I will be honest, we are not very familiar with the interior of either community, we are speaking strictly of location. Plus, I am assuming HL is ALL upscale homes, whereas HB is a mix of different price ranges.

Good luck with your decision and welcome to SoFla!

isnt heron bay in Parkland ?? If so...you would be much better off in Plantation/Davie area.

You will find comparable homes in both areas, maybe more selection toward the high end in HL. HL is more central, closer to Ft faud. downtown & beach. Parkland has better public schools, especially middle and high.

Sounds like you need to do a bit more research into such a big decision...these are two totally different places with homes that look the same.

I was just in Parkland tonight...fabulous community! Gorgeous all around. Schools (like the other poster said) are incredible. Hawks Landing is just a nice place in the West part of Plantation (walled) that is sort of different than the rest of the area. You won't find those types of prices except IN HL. In Parkland...you'll find that the values are pretty much the same high price.

Same meditteranean styled homes......zzzzz

Thank you for your replies...we have done quite a bit of research on both developments (as well as others including Weston, Davie, Coral Ridge) and recently visited both. We understand Parkland and Plantation are two very different communities. Plantation is obviously closer to Ft. Lauderdale than Parkland but Parkland seems to have many advantages over Plantation (schools, property size, and generally more "bang for your buck"). We are looking for some feedback on which community would be a better fit for our needs.

Well, if your needs are for a home near Fort Lauderdale and accessible to great restaurants (which you'll find mostly in downtown Fort Lauderdale) per your op, Hawk's Landing would be the place. Parkland is far from Fort Lauderdale and any restaurants other than chains.

I think there are many great options up in Parkland for great dining....you have Boca Raton AND Coral Springs! Parkland is a fabulous area. How many people on here have visited it recently. Hawks landing is like an island in Plantation. Parkland is a great all over.

There aren't too many posters on here that are from Parkland so asking for advice on here about it is futile!

I live in Parkland ( Heron Bay ) ... I like Plantation , but I personally feel Parkland is nicer , newer and more upscale and the area is getting much better on the amenities side ... you have nice restaurants in Coral Springs , Boca Raton and the Coconut Creek Promenade all near by ... again Plantation is nice .... but I prefer Parkland
