Default Florida Income Tax

Believe me, Florida would be a much worse place to live with a state income tax. The wealthy who bring their money from other states that have economies not based just on tourism habitually buy property in Florida so that they can register as Florida residents. That way, when they receive dividends, interest, etc., from their investment incomes, they don't have to pay a state income tax on those investment incomes like they do in states that have a state income tax.
That's why we see so many new buildings being built in South Florida that look like they are mostly sitting empty and not filled with residents putting money back into the local economy by doing things such as going to restaurants, shopping, etc. Although it's not legal to state that you are a Florida resident when you live most of the time somewhere else and spend your money supporting the economy in that area, there are lots of people who do it and Florida officials look the other way because they'd rather be collecting taxes on the property those people buy than nothing at all and at least some jobs are created for awhile in the construction industry until the national economy goes bad again and people from other places stop buying property in Florida, or popular areas in Florida run out of affordable land to build on.

Natalie, if you own a business, then you have to go to www.sunbiz.org - Home and pay your business sales tax there. If you are a business owner, you should have heard from the revenue office and/or received a letter in the mail. If not, then contact them at the sunbiz site.
