I moved down here in July, have been living at "The Tides" in fort lauderdale, love it... love the building, location, people... sadly my owner has sold my place and I will need to move for January 1st.

Taking a better check of my finances and that i'm not working the original job I had when I got don here, spending $1,400/mo for rent for just me (and my dog) isn't the best idea for the near future...

So, where to look? I've been told Wilton Manners, Hollywood and Plantation are all easy to get to the airport from and have decent places that I should be able to get a 1br or decent studio for under $900/mo.

Any advice? any areas I haven't thought of or been told about?

I was told Hollywood stay east as possible and not to go west of 95, I was told plantation to stick with gated communities.

I'm also open to possible roommate situations if it means staying in a nicer/bigger place and area.. (there is a large 2br/2ba that will be available here for $1,795 so 900/ea).

Thanks for any thoughts/advice!

Hollywood...... There is no problem going West of 95 off of Sheridan Street to 46th Avenue......and Hollywood Blvd you can go west also to 46th Avenue.....

Ft. Lauderdale, around the U.S. 1 and 17th Street causeway area...... There are condo's and apts. on 15th Street east of U.S. 1 you could look into for renting.

You can also look in Davie around Broward Community College and Nova South Eastern university..... off of University drive south of 595 there are many places to rent.

You can try a complex that is on State Raod 84 east of I-95, which is very close to airport and the rent there is pretty reasonable for a 1/1 condo unit in a safe area in Fort Lauderdale.

Look on Rent.com and you'll get all of the rental communities in Broward. You can customize by price and zip code or city to narrow your search down.

The least expensive area close to the airport is Dania Beach. In particular, there is a community called Sheridan Ocean Club that is east of US1 near the beach. The prices are far more reasonable than Hollywood or Fort Lauderdale. I'm not crazy about Dania Beach, which is why I never signed a lease there. Also, I was concerned about the gates always being broken. But if you want a decent apartment for cheap, that is the place.
