If students are willing to learn they can do well in the public schools, but as you can imagine, some public schools are better than others. You will find that Florida's high schools generally don't compare all that well to school systems in the north. Here we have a problem with many 10th graders who don't know how to do basic algebra or compose a simple essay and have repeatedly failed the FCAT.

$20,000 is a fraction of what a private university runs now. $40-50K is a more realistic estimate.

'Realistic' depending on which private university you're talking about. Tuition at many of them don't cost anywhere near that much. Barry University costs about $27,000, and St. Thomas and Nova both cost about $24,000.

I was considering the additional cost of around $10-15k for room, board & various and sundry fees.
