Howdy,
I am going to the orange bowl game staying in hollywood florida not far from there about 11 miles and am wishing to know about getting to sun life stadium and back on January 1 and late night January 1 using some kind of public transport to get near or actual there trying to avoid expensive taxi. Any suggestions and info on bus routes or numbers that go nearby miami gardens and Don shula drive would be greatly appreciated. thanks d doeren

Are you going to the actual Orange Bowl game- FSU vs. NIU? Or the Alabama vs. Notre Dame game?

They usually have buses specifically designated for the games that leave from certain locations like downtown Hollywood or downtown Fort Lauderdale. People get there early, eat lunch, and then get on the buses. You should research this online. They also have designated bars for certain schools. For FSU it is American Social on Las Olas Blvd in Fort Lauderdale. Not sure where Bama or ND bars are. But typically, the buses leave from those locals. You may need to purchase the tickets ahead of time.

I would avoid local buses even though they're cheap. The areas around the stadium are high crime and you may need to switch lines. Taxi cabs are efficient, but very expensive. 11 miles isn't really 11 miles because of how dense the area is and gameday traffic. It will probably take minimum 30 minutes. Cabs are fine if you're going short distances locally in Hollywood or between Fort Lauderdale, but will add up quickly sitting in 30-45 minutes + of traffic.

Unfortunately, they built Sun Life Stadium far out away from everything in the middle of ghettoland. We have trains in South FL, but none of them go near the stadium. There is nothing around the stadium to do or worth seeing. Everything entertainment wise, aside from tailgating, is located miles east along the beaches or in downtown areas. You will want to arrive at the stadium early, tailgate all day, etc. But you won't want to spend time around the stadium for any other reason.

The neat areas to explore if you've never been here are Las Olas in downtown Fort Lauderdale, Fort Lauderdale Beach, downtown Hollywood, and Hollywood Beach- the boardwalk area.
