Is is safe in general (In terms of crime)?
How long is driving time to downtown Fort Lauderdale?
What activities to do there?

It seems less expensive than many surrounding areas?
For residents of "Sunrise", do you enjoy living there?
Thank You!!!

My husband and I are raising our two kids in West Sunrise. Sunrise has been voted as one of the best places to raise a family in S. Florida. We moved into our house when my son was four years old, and before our daughter was born. He is now 12, and she is 6. Due to the economy, you will get a lot more house at a much lower rate than during the prime time.

We are very happy here. We live less than 5 miles from the Sawgrass Mills Mall, and the Sawgrass Expressway is right up the road. That gives us close access to I75, 595, Fl Turnpike, I95, 441, etc.

At any given time, we can jump in the car and take a short 15 minute ride into Coral Springs or Plantation. Or if we want to take it more north, it's about 20 minutes to Parkland, 30 minutes to Boca. If we want to go south, we are fairly close to Weston (10-15 minutes), Davie, (20 minutes) Pembroke Pines (25-30) and around 45 minutes to an hour to get to Miami. Fort Lauderdale is about 20 miles SE.

Lots and lots of things to do in S. Florida in general. It is one of the most kid friendly places I have ever been to!! The elementary schools in Sunrise are great. My daughter goes to an A rated one right up the road from us. My son goes to a very good Middle School. The high school has had it's share of mixed results. But I will deal with that when the time comes.

Sunrise is nice, quiet, and safe. I lived there in the mid 2000's (I'm east of it now); but it's VERY family oriented. It appears the demographics are changing a bit, but whenever I visit I feel safe.

Activities wise there isn't too much for younger adults and teenagers to do expect for Sawgrass Mills. If you like shopping I heard the Ikea is nice (not that you'll catch me in there )

You have to be careful in Sunrise. While the western part of the city is lovely, the eastern part of the city has some very rough neighborhoods. However, overall Sunrise is pretty nice.

I feel like it depends what part of Sunrise. Most of Sunrise is nice and safe. But the area around the town hall off of Sunset Strip seems very sketchy.

I guess Nolefan means the pink (or purple) hose on sunset Strip area. There is no homeowners association to help maintain the nice look as weel as keep up property value & also general safe feeling as parts of west Sunrise do.

I have no idea how expensive you mean as you do not mention price. In Western Sunrise you can get good deals. There are also many options. Single family,Townhomes,Villas, condos.

There are lots of activites to look for, just depends on what you want.

Personaaally for us it is either Weston or further North. Palm beach,Wellington area. Depends on his job placement location.
