I've been reading thru all the threads about South Florida and the best and worst places to live. Looks like we are making a move the beginning of summer with the intentions of renting until we find the best place for our family ( 2 kids, 11 and 9 ), while my husband works in Davie.

Definitely look in the Las Olas area. I know someone who specializes in this - we got our house through him - we are renting a furnished house downtown in a gated area for $2900 on the intracoastal and walking distance to the beach. Those deals aren't always available but take a look at their website:

It also just occurred to me that we are renting long term. Short term is usually not as much of a bargain, but in your favor, you are looking in the off-season.

Look into condo's for rent on the beach in Hollywood / Hallandale area...... Not sure if they would do short term rentals but worth the look.
