Can someone recommend a good church in Broward County? I'm looking for a contemporary church geared towards young families. Nothing too big (no mega churches) just something light hearted and positive.

Thanks!

We too are moving to Broward and looking for churches so this may not be exactly what you need but.....my husband attended Calvary Ft Lauderdale a few weeks ago and liked it. However I think it would be considered a mega-church. We are sort of used to that here in CA. It is what I'd consider contempory though. I've heard good things about the pastor's messages so I know when we move we'll be checking it out...

Calvary Chapel Fort Lauderdale

BUT, they have several satellite campuses around Broward in Hollywood, Plantation, Tavernier and up in Boca...I'd assume any of these would be smaller than the main Ft Laud. campus.

Coral Ridge Presbyterian Church is a wonderful place, with a school affiliation and many many programs for families, singles and they do a great outreach program. They have every level of involvement available and they are not a "mega church." I discovered them by accident, and it was the best thing that ever happened to me.

Pilotgirl Thank you for your post. I am interested to hear about Coral Ridge Presbyterian. I had found them online & was completely turned of by the negative radio show with a cover shot "Obama as socialist". However since then someone told me that some of the political stuff on the website is not affiliated with the current pastor? Is it a conservative church?
We have been going to a very small Presbyterian church in Boca which is OK but doesn't have great kids programs.
I have a wonderful aunt that likes to visit with her partner & am wondering if I can find a church where she can attend with us. I am used to a more liberal protestant church base being from NJ - just cannot seem to find that here. Most of the mega churches are from what I see very conservative, ant-gay etc.

oooohhhh...I didn't see that on the website. I am interested on the answer as I was going to check them out when we move.

DedeMoving...we meet again on a different post. I too have checked out this church as we are also looking. This is a pretty well respected church with a long history with its founding pastor James Kennedy. Even my mom knew who he was and we are all the way out in CA.

The current pastor is the grandson of Billy Graham (he came onboard on 09 after the founder passed away). I listened online the other day to a current message from this pastor and thought it was pretty good. I have scoured their website and do not see anything that wold lead me to believe they are out protesting funerals of gay persons or have any angry militant activities like some churches you see in the news! That would not go over well with me either!

I'd give it a chance and either listen to some things online to get a feel, or just visit since you are there. (then you can report back to the rest of us 'out-of-towners') Anyway, if you go keep us posted!

Actually, there are "2" coral ridge presbyterian churches, both being founded by Kennedy but it seems there was a split upon his death & Kennedy's daughter started another with the similar named coral ridge ministries across town so to speak. This is the one with the "interesting" website.
So the one you listened to (Tullian grandson of Billy Graham) is actually a very large, well respected church, but I am afraid still too conservative to bring my family, sigh. It looks like they have wonderful programs, I may try to check it out.
Leaving my church was one of the hardest things I did during the move!

Yeah, I hear you. Leaving your church family is a hard one, especially when moving to a completely different area. We attend what is considered a non-denominational church, but basically its all pretestant roots. Anyway, I am glad to hear the one I listeded to was not the one with the questionable website that was mentioned. If you do find a church you like in the area, or have any feedback on this onw owuld you dm me??

My husband knows a family at the FT L. Calvary down there so I know thats where he'd most likely feel the most comfortable with what is aleady going to be a really unpleasant move for him, but I'd like to perhaps visit a few and see which fits us best. Good kids programs are important!

Truly, best wishes on finding one that you and your family feel is 'home'.

Odd for me to be recommending a church, but check this one out - it's non-denominational and the members I know are liberals so I imagine it cant be too conservative: The Church By The Sea Fort Lauderdale, Florida (http://www.thechurchbythesea.org/index.html - broken link)

I just noticed the bride and groom on the wedding page are of different races, so yeah, they're liberal. It's also a very pretty church.
