I have a client that lives in Palm Aire -- it is a beautiful community and her building has nice security. Visitors have to be buzzed in after calling the resident via a code listed on the intercom. The monthly maintenance is high though (and I realize you would be renting and not owning, but just as an FYI in case you saw a big jump in rent later on). My client pays more per month than I do per quarter in Weston -- nearly double what I pay. But it seems you get a lot for what you pay.
The area to the west of Palm Aire is nice -- that's Coral Springs and there are lots of nice restaurants there. Also some sports bars -- Bokamper's and Ale House. To the east is not so bad -- a mixture of residences and offices and shopping centers. To the south is OK -- along Commercial and McNab are more strip shopping centers, condos, townhouses and modest homes. Just directly north is not as nice, IMHO. Very very modest neighborhood compared to Palm Aire.
Palm Aire itself is beautiful. I'm not crazy about the areas around it though. Once you get outside of the community's borders, there is a lot of ghetto around it. Its a nice community though. If I were a renter, I'd consider it.
I would take it if the unit is nice and it's a great deal. There is nothing to stay around the surrounding area for, but the location is quite convenient to I95, the beach, and more thirty-something friendly locations such as Deerfield Beach, Boca, etc. I lived in the area a few years back and since then there have been more amenities added around Cypress Creek and Atlantic (such as the LA Fitness on Cypress Creek by I95).
Avoid the areas directly north and northeast of Palm-Aire on the north side of Atlantic Boulevard and you'll be fine.
My brother-in-law has lived in Palm-Aire for the past year or so and likes it. He's quick to voice his opinions if he doesn't like something (putting it more bluntly, he's a chronic complainer), so the fact he's relatively happy there is a good sign.
Good info Papilons thanks.
I wonder how the singles scene is over there (for sub 50 yr olds
