looking to book hotel, condo, etc, traveling with 2 kids and wife to Fort Lauderdale next week from NY and renting a car. Don't mind driving to North Miami, etc.

We are looking to be on the beach(ocean front hotel) with calm water. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks much

P.S. Yeah - this is spontaneous trip, usually reserve well in advance

Try going to www.yelp.com or www.tripadvisor.com they have great reviews of hotels by name or by area.

Make sure to read several of the reviews, especially the latest ones. We travel quite a bit and always use these web sites before we book. So far we have been happy with every hotel or bed and breakfast reviewed on these sites.

We stay away from hotels in South Beach and Miami, just because they seem to cater more to adults than children (just my opinion).

Really love the beach in Fort Lauderdale. I don't know your price point but since you are a family of four (depending on your childrens age) you can probably stay in one room.

In Fort Lauderdale, we have spent a couple of days at the Hilton Fort Lauderdale Beach Resort, kids really enjoyed being right across from the beach. Some hotels provide you with the beach chairs and umbrellas for a nominal price (sometimes free). Some rooms even have a little kitchen if you prefer to make your own meals.

If you want to be right on the beach the Harbor Beach Marriott Resort and Spa is great. They have a kids club (SurfClub) with water and land activities for kids.

Hope this helps.
