Hi,
looking to book hotel, condo, etc, traveling with 2 kids and wife to Fort Lauderdale next week from NY and renting a car. Don't mind driving to North Miami, etc.

We are looking to be on the beach(ocean front hotel) with calm water but would like to avoid south beach crowds. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks much

P.S. Yeah - this is spontaneous trip, usually reserve well in advance

If you want to stay in Fort Lauderdale, try the Lago Mar. Biggest and nicest beach on Ft Lauderdale Beach. On the edge of A1A so its a quick jump to Las Olas and Beach Place. You can also quickly get to 95 if you want to take a trip into Miami.

Look at the W Ft. Lauderdale and specifically at their flats. They have 1 and 2 bedroom units with full kitchens, multiple baths, etc.

The hotel itself is very hip and attracts a young crowd, so for children it might not be the best, but if you're staying in one of the flats you'll be in Tower II, therefore you can avoid the lobby and Living Room most of the time.

I always use tripadvisor when I don't know the area and have never been disappointed.
