Hello All

I am moving to the area this summer for a teaching job in the Boca area. I have some family in Deerfield Beach, but no one knows much about the apartment situation down there. Can you guys tell me a little about the different apartments in the area? I would like to stay within 20 minutes N/NW of my family (I do not want to be much further south considering I will be working in Palm Beach County).

I just need a place that accepts cats (I have 2) and isn't in a scary area (I am a single female moving from "the safest city in america." I would prefer 1 or 2 BR and would also prefer W/D hookups in the apt (or comes with W/D) and a gym on the property. I couldn't care less about being near nightlife, beach, having a pool, etc. though I would like to be near a grocery store and a Target

Oh, and I am a teacher, sooo I cannot afford some gorgeous place on the beach for $2,000+/mo....my max is probably $1,000-1,300.

Any help would be great!

Look in the area of Hillsboro just east of the Turnpike. There are some apartment communities there. However, be careful on the south side of Hillsboro as one of the communities "Julia Gardens" has chinese drywall. There are places there for rent but they are toxic. The community to the east of it should be fine though.

Where are you from?

I would look in West Boca and Coconut Creek. There is an abundance of nice, newer apartment communities in those areas. Deerfield seems to have a shortage of decent apartment communities and has pockets of bad areas. Boca and Coconut Creek are very safe and you should have little or no issue with crime.

You may also want to check out Coral Springs. It is a little further west of Deerfield, but probably within 20 mins. You get the most bang for your buck there.

I am up in a suburb of Buffalo, NY...I have visited Deerfield/Boca/Delray because of my family, but I have never been there for more than a week and never from a professional adult perspective.
