Wow, it's only a town south! You pass through it on I-95 on the way to Miami. Next time you want to see it, get off at Hollywood Blvd. on 95 and head east. This is probably the only "nice" part of Hollywood. The rest of it is just working class neighborhoods, but unlike a lot of So. Fla the working class neighborhoods can be well taken care of.Still, It's a bit run down in a lot of parts and more crowded than Lauderdale. Downtown area is cool and has an old funky Florida charm, as do some of the neighborhoods east of U.S.1. Really nice beach area, with a broadwalk with stores/bars/restaurants along the walkway, no road along the beach. Overall, its on the uprise, crime is a lot lower than Fort Lauderdale now (they used to be about the same, but Hollywood is getting safer). Overall, I like Hollywoods downtown and coastal areas because they don't have that same pretentiousness and excessive levels of commercialization that too many towns in South Florida are getting invaded with. It's gritty, and I like it that way, yet it manages to not be dangerous. Basically, nice east of U.S.1, very very spotty west of U.S.1.

My husband and I live in Hollywood Fl and hate it. Federal Hwy is full of homeless people, hookers, drunks and drug addicts. It is shabby and run down. We pay $850.00 a month for a small run down apartments which the jalousey windows (tilted panes) suck all the a/c out of. We cant wait to move away. Soaring rental and home prices, an influx of too many people coming in, bad traffic, rude people and also high auto insurance make it tough to eke out a living here.

The east side of I-95 is beautiful, but the scary part for me, it is too close to the border (USA/Miami-dade)
