My wife and I will be moving to South Florida for my Job and we are looking to live in the Ft. Lauderdale area. I will be working by the Miami airport and would much rather live in Ft. Lauderdale and commute then live in Miami.

We are looking for a nice 1 bedroom apartment/condo in a safe and nice area. We would like to keep our rent at $1,100 but would go as high as $1,200 if it was a really nice area/apartment.

We are both in our early 30's and have no kids. Any help would be great.

If Broward is what you prefer, why not consider a condo near the I-75 corridor? Western Miramar, Western Pembroke Pines & Weston. We happen to live in Cooper City, and my hubbie makes the commute via Flamingo/Red Road daily. Traffic is brutal whether it's I-75 to the Palmetto, or Flamingo/Red Road/ to LeJeune Rd.

Your commute would be slightly better if you live east and take I-95 to the Airport Expressway than living west along I-75. The traffic on the Palmetto Expressway is brutal, then you'd have to cut east on the Dolphin Expressway which is equally as bad. The I-95 route is no cakewalk either, but IMO it moves quicker than the Palmetto.

Seeing that you have no children, and schools are not an issue, you could live pretty much anywhere. If you want to be near the beach, I would recommend looking in Hollywood or East Fort Lauderdale (Victoria Park and Las Olas).

Now, the Western areas such as Pembroke Pines, Weston, Cooper City, and Davie will have slightly cheaper rents and are more family oriented. But your commute will still be equally as bad if not worse. You should also check out Plantation and Davie, which you could commute on Florida's Turnpike.
