My husband has been offered a job at one of the universities in Davie, FL. We want to rent a home first, and make sure the job is a good fit, as well as the area. Both children are in elementary school, one entering 1st grade and the other 3rd. Does anyone have any suggestions on were to look? Weston? Coral Springs? Boca Raton? The kids will most likely go to University School, which is on Nova's campus, but we are not positive. We are looking to move this summer, so any suggestions would be much appreciated.

The areas that your speaking of are all good places to look. Close to shopping, schools, movie theaters, as well as Drive Ins, public transportation, and lots of places for family or adult entertainment. Your close to beaches, Port Everglades and the cruise ships, Seminole Hard Rock Casino, in Hollywood (off US 441) and the one in Pompano (on Sample Rd). Good Luck to you and your family. Everything is accessed easily, very close as far as your drive time. You didn't specify a price range.....

Hi Talia, Boca Raton is a great place to live, but is very far from Davie, my suggestion is to take transportation costs (from fuel to car insurance) into consideration when finding a new home. If you're looking for peace of mind, Weston is the best choice. Here is why: A+ schools, excellent public safety, the lowest crime rate per capita in the County and 14 parks and recreation facilities, among others. Nearby Coconut Creek and Cooper City are established areas with excellent schools and are very suitable for young families.

Thank you for all of your advice. We previously lived in Orlando for over 15 years, so are somewhat familiar with Florida. We have decided to rent for the first year, in the range of $1800 - $2500. I have checked out Weston, which is similar to the community we lived in up in Orlando. There are also a lot of rentals there, but it doesnt seem like you get much for your money. I completely agree with the comment about Boca Raton, and have crossed that off of our list. I think we have narrowed it down to Weston, Plantation, and Coral Springs/Parkland. Weston seems to be the best area with kids, but you seem to get more in Plantation. Yes, my head is spinning. I think we are set on University School for the kids, as I haven't heard anything negative about it. The kids are both active in sports, so I will need to find places for dance, gymnastics, baseball, football, etc. Does anyone have suggestions on a good website for rentals? In Orlando, the YMCA offers a lot of the kids sports, is that true down there, as well? Excited about the move, but still so much to figure out! Thank you for all of your advice!

Weston is the best if you are going to use the public schools. However, if you are set on University School Plantation and Davie are also nice.

Parkland/Coral Springs is still a bit far especially if you're kids are going to school by Nova you're best sticking with the Davie/Weston area. But, I would definitely recommend renting first so you can get a feel for the area.
If you're moving from the "real" south, this area can be a real culture shock. It's very different around here (South FL) than anywhere else in Florida even Orlando..some love it and some hate it.

Hello, I live just north of Davie.The areas that you are considering are great. There is always something for my daughter and I to do. Once your out and about at the local family events, its similar to a small town. I love that aspect of this area. You'll find plenty of sports teams and actives. There are also a lot of web sites that keep you posted on the local haps..lol
