I may end up renting for a while, but am hoping to relocate and purchase a condo in the Fort Lauderdale area. (Looking inland around sunrise/plantation.)

Can anyone give me an estimate of what condo insurance would be? I'm hoping for a 2 bed/2 bath. Nothing high end and I have no valuables, just your average place with average stuff. Before I start getting quotes, I'd like to get a general idea. I hate to pile up credit inquiries for insurance quotes when I'm about to apply for a mortgage.

I realize there will be a variance, but since I'm only paying $250 per year up north, I don't know if $50 per month is a reasonable expectation in south florida or if I can expect five times that.

thanks in advance.

Florida homeowner's insurance, with hurricane coverage, is hugely higher than owner's insurance in the Northeast. I just acquired a 2-bedroom condo by the beach, and my premium (with hurricane coverage) is $1050 a year. For my condo in the suburbs of DC, the premium is $130 a year. Unfortunately, the hurricane threat makes Florida insurance very costly. I suspect that you are not going to find a premium less than $1000 a year. Sorry.
