My husband will be working in Coral Springs and we are relocating from California. I would like to live in a place with excellent schools (middle and high school), close to the beach, and in a suburban area with lots of activity nearby (mall, movies, etc.) I don't want to live in a retirement community or too sleepy or rural. I would like to stay under $2000 a month for rent in a single family home with a pool (not a community pool). What areas should I be looking in? Coral Springs sounds wonderful, but I don't think I can find what I am looking for at $2000.

Won't find it.

If you want good schools - forget the beachfront.

Coral Springs would be a nice place to live, fairly decent schools but not near the beach. If you live near the beach you won't find good public schools. Most of the decent schools are out west.
the western suburbs took a hit with the housing bubble, i think you should be able to find a rental with pool under 2K if you look hard.

You wont find that out east, however is not a far drive from coral springs to the beach probably about 25 minutes. The schools are better there but it is expensive.

Coconut Creek is nice and more affordable than Coral Springs. You'll still be about 20 minutes from the beach but as ruski mentioned I don't think you'll find any good schools by the beach.

Coral Springs commute wouldn't be that bad from east Boca. Great schools and can walk to the beach. Kids are there right now!

I am from east Broward, but when we returned to south Florida, I realized that if we wanted to live east, it had to be Boca in southern Palm Beach County if I wanted public schools.
