Hello, I am from NYC and am interested in moving to South Florida. My target areas are Fort Lauderdale down to Miami. I am married with no kids. Currently I work for a large back as a Project Manager.

I was wondering if someone can give me some tips on the best way to move. I tried to look for a job via email without any real responses from good companies. My thought is that the NYC on the resume throws the recruiters off. I do have good project management work history - 10+ years.

Any advice - any one know good recruiters?

In my experience, NYC threw off HR managers. Maybe they thought I would have too many demands or something.

This sounds crazy. But you could rent a P.O. Box in Fort Lauderdale and have your mail forwarded to NYC. Then use the P.O. Box address to apply for jobs in Florida. Employers typically do not consider applicants from outside of the area.

^^I was going to suggest the same. I don't think many agencies/recruiters would consider someone out of state due to the challenges of setting up interviews and such, and I'm sure there are TONS of candidates in their respective area.

Good luck, OP (original poster)!

Based on my experience, you will most likely be communicated via phone/email so you may want to get a local phone number instead (although you can get away with the NY number as long as you have a local address listed on the resume/application). Lot of people don't change their cell phone after they move.

I'm contemplating moving to Fort Myers with a friend, we are both college graduates (from Michigan) and we are looking to relocate. Both degrees are in business, I'm worried we'll get there and be stranded, although we both have waitress experience, and I am bartender. I do want to use my degree, probably something administrative in the beginning, since I have five years experience in that area. She wants to move here because she knows someone, well Id rather pick a place where we wont struggle entirely, any ideas besides Ft Myers? I keep hearing such bad things =(

Ft Myers is a terrible area to move without a job. The location of Ft Myers is bad because you're 100's of miles from the nearest major city. Tampa and South FL are 2.5 hours away in either direction. Ft Myers is considered a retirement area. The types of jobs are skewed towards retirement industries. You may very well end up being stranded there.
