Hello all, Ima 26yo single male thinking of taking a Job in weston Florida. I was looking at the surrounding areas for places to live. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions. Im not looking for anyhing fancy or expensive 6-800/ month. But with that I dont want to be in an unsafe neighborhood. I have never been to florida so I really dont know anything about it other than what "google" tells me. any help would be great as well as any other questions I should be asking...

You won't find anything for $800 that is safe. Weston is an upscale area and I imagine rents are all above 800. You can also look in Sunrise, Pembroke Pines, Davie, Plantation, and Coral Springs. But I'd image you'll pay closer to $900-1000/mo for "safe".

In general, the farther away from the beach (the farther west), the safer it is.

That is not very accurate. The areas on the beach or within a mile of the beach are relatively safe. It is when you go west of US1 or Dixie Highway in many parts where it becomes dangerous. Then as you get past University Drive it becomes safe again in many parts.

I just moved out of Weston for logistical reasons...Weston is awesome; plus at your age, you have Hardrock 15 minutes away, the beach is 30 minutes down I 595, you got P.Pines just south of you...

Oh, but you aren't getting in Weston for under $1.1K or $1.2K for a 1/1 ... , but very much worth it...

On the budget you mentioned you are not going to find much in a safe , and desirable neighborhood. You can get into a 1/1 at that price in Hollywood, east , between University and 441 (yukkk) or in Miramar (Better, leave all your belongings at someone else's place)...

Hmm, try Cooper City, but I don't think they have apartments, mostly houses.. If you move north to Plantation, that might be at your price point, but double check the demographics, it might not match your ideal...

The most affordable rents where you get the most apartment for your dollar seem to be in Sunrise, Pembroke Pines, and Coral Springs.

If you're looking to rent an apartment, you may want to try to rent one from the city of Pembroke Pines. I know someone who is doing that and I think he's paying somewhere around $740 or $750/month.

Outside of that, that price range in Pembroke Pines ain't happenin' ... unless you get a roommate. One bedrooms here can start at $1000-plus. I highly recommend you do a search on one of those apartment rental sites to get a better idea of high the rents can go here.

Also, I love PPines because of all the conveniences I have here (I don't have to drive far for anything I need, i.e. bank, grocery store, mall, restaurants, etc.), but be forewarned that it is crowded in this area, which can get old at times.

I can only imagine that Weston is expensive and way west. You won't be hitting any beaches for at least 45 minutes and up coming from there, especially with traffic. Sunrise and Plantation are good areas, too, but I really can't imagine that it's any cheaper to live in those areas either. South Florida housing is ridiculously expensive. It's the price we pay for beaches and favorable weather (outside of hurricane season, which is now until November 30).

You may to consider a rent finders service, too. I had no luck with that but it is an option. Good luck with your search!

Check out Rent.com. You can find all of the well known rental communities in the area on that website in your price range.

Would you consider a roomate? You could find a nice place in your price range, if so. Many apartments in newer rental communities are set up with "split plans" so you have your own bath and privacy. With a roommate you could probably afford something further east, even around Las Olas, which would help with the social life and beach access. Reverse commuting from east to west is not bad.

You are going to have to find a roomate. Your budget isn't realistic to live alone without bars on your windows and a gun under your pillow.

I agree with nolefan about the areas to look into.
