I have visited....eaten....shopped...people watched....all along Los Olas and have always worn shorts...T-shirts...and sandels...and never had a problem...but you will see people with button down shirts...unbuttoned other than the last button with a gold cross or something similiar hanging from their necks...with their counterparts wearing less...and they to have no problem on Los Olas as well...so basically wear what you want and with todays economy...everyone but the idiots will welcome you with open arms....have fun...

It depends what time of day. During the day, you can wear a bathing suit and flip-flops and shop comfortably. Las Olas is very close to the beach and people often go back and forth between the two. At night, people go out there and most people tend to dress up rather nicely. For men, a nice button-down shirt and slacks and for women a casual dress are common attire at night.

The shops and restaurants in Las Olas tend to be high-end retail and dining. So for dinner I would recommend you dress a little nicer than average. Some of the bars there might not even let you in if you are underdressed.

You can bet in anywhere as long as you are clean and presentable. Ft. Lauderdale is laid back like that. However, the norm depends on what time of the day and where you are. For more upscale places at night, a button down for a guy and a dress/skirt is the for a women is the norm.

I don't think it is so laid back on Las Olas. People dress up nicely during evenings out if they go to dinner or bars afterwards. During the day people dress way more casual except for the downtown business district where you see lots of suits.
