I'm looking for a short term rental so that we have a place when we move to the area in mid November. Then we will have time to look for more permanent housing. It doesn't have to be great, just serviceable and safe enough. I'm not finding much that is available for November yet. This is one of the only places I've seen 817 SW 29th St. All I can tell so far is that it's near SP Snyder Park.

Serviceable and safe enough is a good way to describe the area. It is a bit rough around the edges, a little "rednecky", pretty sleepy area overall. It is VERY close to the runway at Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood International. Within your expectations it should be OK.

You do not specify how many months comprise your "short term rental", however, hopefully you know that if the lease is for less than 6 months, the landlord must pay hotel room taxes. Therefore, I doubt you will find much if anything for less of a term without a premium price. While I don't know how you are doing your property search, this first googled website alone popped up 33 pages of listings.

Fort Lauderdale Houses And Homes for Rent

Given the vast supply of inventory, if you go well west (i.e., stay away from the snowbird traffic trying to be near the beach), I suspect you can ultimately negotiate a deal suitable to your desired duration with less than a dozen phone calls.

Thanks for the replies. Short term is very short - month to month or 3 month, so from what I've seen regular apartment complexes don't do leases under 7 months because of the tax that you mentioned, casualobserver. So, it looks like I have to search more for a private or "vacation" rental. I'd rather have to pay somewhat more for a short time than be stuck in a lease I don't want....

The area you mentioned is ok for a short term rental. But I would not want to live there long term. I agree it is one of the more rednecky areas of town. Its almost like they removed part of suburban Tampa and placed it just south of downtown Fort Lauderdale.

On a positive note, that area is very close to downtown and very accessible to I-95, 595, and the airport and cruiseports and beaches.
