Ok, we relocated last year from MD where I taught for 12 years. We have been here almost a year. The kids seem settled. The plan was to be a stay at home mom and sub a little. Well the kids school has lots of subs I've been called twice since last Spring. I don't really know a lot of people and haven't made it into the "inner circle" of the sub list. I want to do more. I have seen job listings in Broward that I qualify for. Are there any teachers on here? I am surprised to see openings if they laid off 1500 teachers.
Or maybe these are schools where I don't want to work?

I'm not a teacher but my husband was one of the first year teachers that were laid off. He was lucky enough to find a more stable job in a different industry.

From my understanding, many teachers new to district are "laid off" each summer to make way for more tenured teachers. Then those that were laid off may get called back in for a different position at another school.

Thanks, like I said I saw some positions I was interested in but wasn't sure how the process works. They may still be hiring back the teachers they laid off and posting the jobs may just be a formality. Of course, I would prefer to not get laid off every year if I was hired.

For what it's worth, my husband got hired at a last minute job fair specifically for teachers in specific subject areas. If you teach Math or Science or Reading you may have luck at something like that.

Thanks, I am working or getting my FL certification. I have a MD certificate so it shouldn't be a problem. It will be in reading and special ed. so at least it is in a high need area.
