That would be Miami-Dade County, Broward County, and Palm Beach County. That is a HUGE area. The suggestions given by previous posters were all great options you should check out. I would say Davie had the best proximity to Ft. Lauderdale. Avoid Downtown Davie as it is the least family friendly section.

YES! Many people moan, groan, and complain about having nothing but heat and humidity 9 months a year. It does have a wearing effect sort of similar to if you were stuck in a cold state like Wisconsin where it was cold 9 months out of the year. But then the winters hit and it is beautiful here.

Also, about the Tri-County area-

It is a VERY large area. It is best to live closest to your jobs. If your jobs are in Fort Lauderdale, DO NOT live in Jupiter. Jupiter is the extreme northern end of the Tri County area and is a beautiful place but is way too far a drive.

Look into the Jacaranda Lakes area of Plantation. A rated elementary, B middle school or high school. You can also call pupil placement at Broward County Schools and apply for the Nova schools. Centrally located, lots of cops live in the area - no problem parking car in driveway. Nice parks (Central Park) and sports / activities for kids and adults. Near nice shopping areas. 15 minutes to beaches / downtown - with no traffic/ or the airport. Since the housing bust lots of young families moving back into the area cause they are no longer priced out. HOA like $400 a YEAR (be sure and ask about the tax rates / HOA fees in other communities so you can do an accurate comparison).

There are a lot of churches within 10 - 15 minutes, there are also very good Catholic Schools (St Gregory's) in Plantation and nearby.

Don't make it known that you are conservative minded - no one will notice...once you say or state public ly that you are a conservative - different groups that practice liberal extremism will quietly persecute you - word will go around that you are bad intoleratant people and that your dog bites...Maintain privacy - with privacy in tack you can avoid subtle harrassment - and you will be able to focus un-impeded by the left wing crazy people who think that liberalism is sophistication and that conservatism is based in being mean spirited - Don't give people to much credit. They are rather dumb.
