Hey all - I'm relocating to the Wilton Manors/Ft. Lauderdale area from eastern North Carolina, where US Cellular is my cell phone provider. Who offers the best (fastest, best coverage area, most reliable, etc.) 4G cell phone service in the Ft. Lauderdale area? Sprint? Verizon? T-Mobile? AT&T? Are they all about the same? Is there one provider there that pretty much everyone has?

Thanks!

South Florida is really hit or miss with cell phone service. It honestly depends on your exact location. For example, I lived on the border of Wilton Manors and Oakland Park, in Oakland Park. Verizon worked great where I lived, but inside the city limits of Wilton Manors I could barely get a signal.

AT&T, by far, is awful here. My friends that have AT&T in South Florida gripe non-stop about dropped calls and signal issues. I had more than one meeting at work where someone would bring up AT&T and it would turn heated quickly (at the time, only AT&T had the iPhone, and my co-workers love their iPhones, but hated the carrier).

I recommend you move down here first before deciding on a carrier. Each carrier offers a 15 or 30 day "money back guarantee" for their service to try out.

To be honest, except for Wilton Manors, I had no issues with Verizon Wireless at all. I had maybe one dropped call the entire time I lived in Florida (and that was on the Turnpike in the middle of nowhere).

Also, I'm sure you know this, but U.S. Cellular does not exist in South Florida (or maybe even the whole state?). I'm sure you will get roaming coverage, but I don't think they would let you stay a U.S. Cellular customer unless you kept your out-of-state address.

And one last tip: almost all of my friends in Florida had out-of-state numbers. Unless your job/personal situation mandates that you change to a 954 number, don't bother. I had an Illinois number the entire time I lived there and it was a non-issue.

Good Luck!

Okay, so it sounds like AT&T is bad for the Ft. Lauderdale area, but Verizon is okay. Any comments on Sprint? They're offering me the best deal (iPhone or Android w/ 450 minutes, unlimited text, & unlimited data for $62 a month).

I have AT&T and have never had issues with it anywhere in south Florida. Not to say that others haven't had problems, but don't rule it out based on other peoples' anecdotes. It may work just fine for you, as it has for me.

Hate AT&T... had two seperate I-Phones with them and actually paid to get out of the contract so I could go back to Verizon.
